BrowserCoin Develops New Algorithm for Browser-Based Mining
Sandglass algorithm announced to bring back browser mining against GPU farms.
1Vision for Browser-Based Mining
BrowserCoin envisions a system where users can become full nodes and mine simply by opening a browser tab, with no installation required. This aims to make participation in decentralized networks extremely easy.
2Rise of GPU Farms
The project's initial PoW algorithm, Argon2id, was easily overtaken by GPU farms. Due to GPUs' bandwidth advantage, browser-based miners became non-competitive, endangering the network's decentralization vision.
3Sandglass: Revolutionary New Algorithm
Developers designed Sandglass, a new PoW algorithm based on memory latency. This neutralizes GPUs' parallelism advantage, making browser-based mining competitive again.
4Technical Advantages of the Algorithm
Sandglass works by performing dependent random read/write operations on a small memory buffer. Since each step depends on the previous one, GPUs cannot utilize their parallel processing power effectively.
5Comprehensive Test Results
Tests on 90+ devices showed browser-based WASM implementation performing within 10% of hand-optimized native C code. Even the most powerful GPUs only achieved 1.6-3x advantage.
6Future of Decentralization
This update strengthens BrowserCoin's core vision. Now anyone can participate in the network on equal terms through a browser tab, making truly decentralized mining possible.
