Bucky Dent, an ace fisherbear, managed to dethrone the 2025 champion Bear #32 (Chunk) in the first round. His innovative fishing technique, developed as a subadult, has made him a standout competitor. This victory sets him up for a challenging next round against Bear #89 (Backpack). ## Backpack's Dominance Bear #89, nicknamed Backpack, secured a landslide victory with over 95% of the votes against Bear #620. Known for his resilience, Backpack overcame a severe leg injury in 2007 with the help of his mother. His consistent presence at Brooks Falls and his loyal online following make him a formidable contender in the upcoming battle against Bucky Dent. ## Family Dynamics Bear #132 and her cubs triumphed over Bear #806's family in a compelling match. Bear #132 faced challenges this summer when one of her cubs separated from the family but managed to reunite after several days. This is her first appearance at Fat Bear Week, adding a layer of intrigue to her journey. Her next match is against Bear #910, who overcame her sister Bear #909. ## Sister Rivalry Bear #910 defeated her sister Bear #909 in a dramatic sibling showdown. Bear #909 had a tragic summer, losing both her cubs, one to an attack by Bear #806. Despite her losses, Bear #909 displayed resilience and skill, earning her a spot in the competition. The sisters' complex family dynamics, including a rare adoption event in 2022, add depth to their rivalry. ## Infanticide Incident Bear #806 made headlines for attacking and killing an unrelated cub, marking the first documented case of infanticide by a female adult at Brooks River. This shocking event occurred while Bear #806 was with her own cubs. Her actions have sparked discussions about bear behavior and survival strategies in the wild. ## Walker's Evolution Bear #151, known as Walker, has evolved from a playful, no-drama bear to a more dominant figure in 2026. Despite his large size and general dominance, Walker has never won Fat Bear Week. His next challenge is against Bucky Dent, a younger male who could threaten Walker's position in the hierarchy. ## Innovative Fishing Bucky Dent's unique fishing method sets him apart from other bears. Standing at the deepest plunge pool under Brooks Falls, he catches fish that jump up or fall from above. This technique, developed during his subadult years, has contributed to his success and reputation as a skilled fisherbear. ## Public Engagement Fat Bear Week continues to captivate audiences with its blend of wildlife drama and public voting. The event not only highlights the bears' survival stories but also raises awareness and funds for conservation efforts. Voting remains open, with the overall winner to be crowned on September 29. ## Sources covering this story - https://www.popsci.com/environment/fat-bear-week-round-2-bracket-walker-bucky-dent-backpack/ — --- _Summary written by Brifing from the original reporting.
