Apple Pay introduces 4 game-changing features
New updates personalize the payment experience for iPhone users.
1Redesigned checkout interface
iOS 27's revamped Apple Pay interface simplifies switching between payment cards during checkout. Users can swipe through cards on the main screen and instantly view rewards, balances, and pay-later options for each card with just a glance.
2Amex rewards integration
A new partnership enables American Express cardholders to redeem Membership Rewards points directly through Apple Pay. Every 10,000 points converts to $70 in purchase value, applicable to partial or full payments during checkout.
3Tap to Share functionality
Coming this fall, this feature allows one-tap connection to merchants' iPhones for secure sharing of contact details, shipping addresses, and loyalty information. Shoppers can monitor real-time basket updates and verify applied discounts before completing transactions.
4Direct debit card reloads
Later in 2024, users will manage debit card balances within Apple Wallet. The update supports instant balance top-ups either in the Wallet app or during checkout processes, eliminating the need for separate banking apps.
5Enhanced card management
The new grid view displays all Apple Pay cards simultaneously, providing centralized access to payment methods, reward programs, and transaction details. Payment flows now require fewer taps while offering more contextual information.
6Digital wallet evolution
These upgrades position Apple Pay for broader retail adoption by addressing key friction points in mobile payments. As personalized checkout experiences become seamless, physical wallets may increasingly become obsolete for iPhone users worldwide.
