Gemini automatically generates meeting notes for you.

1Google Meet's New Feature

Google Meet's 'Take Notes for me' feature now supports in-person meetings, automatically transcribing and summarizing conversations using Gemini. Notes are saved as a Google Doc after the meeting, allowing users to focus on the discussion without the distraction of manual note-taking. This feature enhances productivity by eliminating the need to split attention between listening and writing.

2How It Works

To use the feature, simply open the Google Meet app and select 'Take Notes for me.' You can pause or stop dictation at any time. If needed, you can switch to a video call to include remote participants. Notes are automatically saved to Google Docs, just like in online meetings. This seamless integration makes it easy to access and share meeting summaries.

3Availability and Platforms

Google first announced this feature in April 2024. It's now rolling out widely to AI Pro, AI Ultra, and Workspace subscribers. Android users gained access starting August 11, web users on August 14, and iOS users will see it from August 31. Workspace admins may need to enable the feature for their organization before it becomes available to users.

4Alternative Solutions

If you don't have access to Google Meet's feature, alternatives like Apple's Voice Memos offer automatic transcription. Voice Memos saves transcripts to Apple Notes. For non-Apple users, options like Otter.ai, GoTranscript, and Rev provide similar functionality. However, these lack the deep integration with Google's ecosystem that Meet offers.

5Boosting Productivity

The automatic note-taking feature significantly benefits busy professionals by allowing full focus on meetings. Without the need to take manual notes, participants can engage more deeply in discussions. This is particularly valuable for lengthy or detail-heavy meetings, ensuring no critical points are missed while maintaining a clear record of the conversation.

6Gemini's Role

Google's Gemini AI powers this feature, processing and summarizing conversations in real time. Users receive concise, organized notes instead of lengthy transcripts. This AI-driven solution streamlines post-meeting workflows, saving time and improving information retention. Gemini's accuracy and speed make it a reliable tool for professional settings.

7User Feedback

Early users report positive experiences with the feature, highlighting reduced distractions during meetings. The automatic saving of notes to Google Docs simplifies sharing and collaboration. Users appreciate the seamless integration with their existing workflow, noting it as a significant upgrade over manual note-taking methods.

8Future Potential

Google Meet's feature represents a major step in AI-powered workplace tools. As hybrid work models grow, demand for automatic transcription and note-taking will increase. Google aims to lead this space, with potential expansions to other languages and integrations. Competing platforms are likely to follow suit, advancing the future of smart meeting assistants.
