1Beluga cams go live

As extreme heat waves hit North America and Europe, the Beluga Cam offers a refreshing alternative. Starting July 15th, the live feed will showcase 57,000 white whales migrating to Canada's southern waters each summer, revealing their natural behaviors in real-time.

2Belugas' summer rituals

The white whales travel to the Churchill River to feed, molt, and give birth. Polar Bears International and explore.org's collaboration provides both above-water and underwater views. Hydrophones will allow viewers to hear the whales' frequent vocalizations during the broadcast.

3Citizen science project

The Beluga Bits Citizen Science Project has engaged over 40,000 volunteers who've classified 10+ million photos. This effort helps researchers study species difficult to observe in the wild. Volunteers previously discovered two jellyfish species never before recorded in Hudson Bay.

4Polar bear tracking system

On Arctic Sea Ice Day, the Svalbard Polar Bear Tracker also launches. This joint project with the Norwegian Polar Institute will monitor two Barents Sea polar bears. The decade-old Hudson Bay Polar Bear Tracker recently upgraded to show year-round movement animations.

5Global climate significance

PBI Executive Director Krista Wright emphasizes protecting the Arctic ecosystem: 'What happens in the Arctic doesn't stay there. Every fraction of warming matters for polar bears, Arctic wildlife, and our global climate.' These projects aim to raise climate change awareness.

6Live broadcast details

The Beluga Boat will stream live on July 15th at 10:00 AM and 1:30 PM EDT. Viewers can witness mothers interacting with calves and whales approaching cameras. This unique experience provides valuable insight into climate change impacts on Arctic wildlife.
