NVIDIA Deploys AI Agents to Streamline AI Factory Operations
NVIDIA introduces an agentic framework to automate complex GPU cluster troubleshooting and management.
1Automating Complex Cluster Management
NVIDIA has developed the AI Factory Operations Agent to streamline the management of its internal DGX SuperPOD clusters. By utilizing specialized sub-agents, the system detects failures and correlates root causes across compute, network, and hardware layers. This approach significantly reduces the manual workload traditionally required by site reliability engineers during performance drops.
2Framework and Modular Architecture
The framework is built on the NVIDIA NemoClaw blueprint, which orchestrates domain-specific agents through a centralized chat interface. It leverages the Model Context Protocol to integrate various operational tools, including web search and Grafana dashboards. This modular design allows organizations to add new agents or infrastructure integrations without modifying existing system components.
3On-Premises Deployment and Security
The solution runs fully on-premises, supporting data sovereignty by utilizing locally served NVIDIA Nemotron open models. It is deployed as a Kubernetes control-plane application across DGX H100, B200, and GB300 clusters. Security is enforced through kernel-level sandbox restrictions and role-based access control, ensuring that agents operate safely within defined cluster resource boundaries.
4Specialized Domain Agent Ecosystem
The system employs diverse agents, such as the Job Recovery Agent for training failures and the Hardware Agent for triaging device-level faults. Other components include the Observability Agent for telemetry analysis and the Research Agent for querying technical documentation. These agents provide targeted, actionable recommendations through a unified natural language chat interface.
5Multi-Tenant Operational Isolation
For multi-tenant environments, the framework implements scoped agents and Kubernetes permissions to isolate tenant data. While central operations maintain broad visibility, individual tenants are restricted to their specific namespaces and nodes. OpenShell enforces these boundaries by running each tenant’s tools in isolated sandboxes, preventing unauthorized access to sensitive cluster resources.
6Production Learnings and Best Practices
NVIDIA emphasizes the importance of clear agent boundaries and read-only investigation to build trust with human operators. Production experience shows that cross-layer correlation identifies root causes often missed by isolated monitoring tools. Transparent reasoning is prioritized, allowing engineers to review evidence before the system takes any automated action on production workloads.
7Infrastructure and Deployment Models
Organizations are encouraged to deploy a dedicated GPU-accelerated control plane isolated from the production cluster. This separation ensures that agent orchestration does not consume training resources or disrupt active workloads. Smaller deployments can utilize local hardware like RTX PRO Workstations, while larger environments benefit from dedicated inference capacity for agent models.
8Future Implementation and Availability
The AI Factory Operations Agent framework is currently available as experimental open-source software on GitHub. NVIDIA continues to refine the system by measuring root cause analysis accuracy and tracking engineer agreement rates. Customers interested in pre-developed cluster operations agents can contact their account managers to request access to proprietary NVIDIA implementations.
