Rumors suggest increased physical battery capacity too, especially in Pro Max models. This could address one of users' most common complaints about charging frequency with noticeable real-world improvements. ## Camera System Overhaul Apple is expected to deliver its most significant camera hardware upgrade in years. Variable aperture on main lens and larger telephoto aperture stand out. Leaks about a 2mm thicker camera module hint at substantial optical improvements for both photography and videography enthusiasts. ## Fresh Design Elements A 35% smaller Dynamic Island and unified back glass design will refresh the iPhone's look. New color options like Dark Cherry and Light Blue will differentiate it from predecessors. These aesthetic changes may motivate annual upgraders seeking visible novelty. ## In-House Modem Potential Apple's custom C2 cellular modem could reduce Qualcomm dependency while improving signal quality and power efficiency. This might particularly enhance user experience in low-coverage areas, though real-world performance remains to be tested. ## Pro-Grade Imaging Tools Variable aperture promises greater creative control for photographers. Expect low-light improvements and depth effect refinements. Cinematic Mode enhancements could benefit professional content creators seeking smoother video capabilities. ## Upgrade Worth Considering? Annual upgrades aren't always justified for iPhone 17 Pro owners. However, these substantial improvements in camera, battery, and design might tempt tech enthusiasts and power users. Apple's September pricing strategy will ultimately determine the upgrade's value proposition. ## Sources covering this story - https://9to5mac.com/2026/07/23/iphone-18-pro-three-reasons-you-might-want-to-upgrade-from-iphone-17-pro/ — --- _Summary written by Brifing from the original reporting.
