Gómez Platero proposes four-tower mixed-use development in Miami
Uruguayan firm designs angular skyscrapers for former Miami Herald site.
1Miami's potential new landmark
Uruguayan architecture studio Gómez Platero has proposed four geometrically shaped skyscrapers for the waterfront site of the demolished Miami Herald building. The $1.2 billion project will combine residential, hotel and commercial spaces.
2Architectural details and design
The four 'polyhedral' towers feature angular silhouettes that break from traditional rectangular forms. The staggered designs emphasize verticality while reducing mass perception. Commercial spaces and parking will occupy the bases.
3Waterfront-integrated design
Architects created multifunctional podiums that harmonize with the coastline. Pedestrian pathways and marina connections will integrate the project with its surroundings, including a link to Pérez Art Museum under the highway.
4Structural engineering solutions
The towers will feature reinforced vertical circulation cores and an external framework of angled columns. This design ensures optimal load transfer to the podiums while creating distinctive architectural expressions.
5Phased construction strategy
The project is planned to be built in phases of two towers each. This approach aims to optimize construction logistics while ensuring profitability at every stage of development.
6Miami's ongoing transformation
The project represents another chapter in Miami's rapidly changing urban landscape. Like the demolition and reconstruction of the Mandarin Oriental hotel, this development reflects the city's continuous evolution.
