The leak was discovered via a curl command generated by Codex, revealing names Yu Deng, John Pardon, Jacob Tsimerman, and Hong Wang. ## Milestone for Chinese mathematics If confirmed, this will mark a historic achievement for Chinese mathematics, being the first time two Chinese mathematicians receive the Fields Medal in the same edition. Hong Wang would become only the third female mathematician in history to win this prestigious award. ## Peking University pride Both Hong Wang and Yu Deng featured in the leaked list are alumni of Peking University. This development is expected to further elevate the institution's international prestige in mathematics, adding another remarkable achievement to China's academic accomplishments. ## Technical details The leak occurred in the front-end code of the ICM 2026 official schedule, where four Fields Medalist lecture fields were marked as 'HIDDEN.' The data was exposed through a curl command generated by Codex, constituting an unusual data breach for major mathematical organizations. ## Awaiting official confirmation The list awaits official confirmation on July 23. If the leak proves accurate, this will become a landmark event in mathematical history, generating significant reverberations throughout the academic community. ## Making mathematical history These potential outcomes hold multifaceted importance for mathematics. They highlight China's academic achievements while marking a turning point in the historically male-dominated Fields Medal. The mathematical community eagerly anticipates the official announcement. ## Sources covering this story - https://phemex.com/news/article/2026-fields-medal-winners-list-leaked-includes-two-peking-university-alumni-92948 — --- _Summary written by Brifing from the original reporting.
