This seasonal update replaces standard notification sounds with festive audio options, allowing homeowners to greet trick-or-treaters with spooky tones. The feature is designed to enhance the user experience during the holiday period through simple, engaging smart home customization. ## App-Based Tone Preview A recent update to the Google Home application introduces a convenient preview functionality for these specific chimes. Users can now listen to each of the nine available tones directly within the mobile interface. This improvement eliminates the need to physically trigger the doorbell, streamlining the selection process for busy homeowners. ## Limited Availability Window These thematic audio options are strictly temporary additions to the Nest ecosystem. Google has confirmed that the Halloween-themed chimes will be removed from the platform on November 1. This limited-time availability creates a sense of urgency for users who wish to utilize the festive sounds before the holiday season concludes. ## User Customization Options The current rollout provides nine unique sound profiles for Nest doorbell owners to choose from. By navigating through the updated Google Home app settings, users can switch between these tones to surprise visitors. This level of personalization allows for a more interactive and thematic approach to home security and visitor management. ## Discovery and Implementation The return of these seasonal chimes was initially identified and reported by the team at 9to5Google. Their observation confirms that the feature is now live for compatible hardware models. Users should ensure their Google Home application is updated to the latest version to access these specific holiday-themed audio settings immediately. ## Smart Home Engagement Strategy Integrating holiday-specific features serves as a strategic method to maintain active engagement with existing smart home hardware. By offering periodic, non-essential updates, Google encourages users to interact more frequently with the Google Home app. This tactic transforms a functional security device into a more dynamic and entertaining household utility. ## Hardware Compatibility Scope The update applies to compatible Nest doorbell models currently supported within the Google Home ecosystem. While the specific hardware list is broad, users should verify their device firmware status to ensure full compatibility. The seamless integration of these sounds demonstrates the platform's capability to push software-based enhancements to existing connected hardware. ## Impact on User Experience Providing seasonal customization options like Halloween chimes highlights the evolving nature of consumer smart home technology. Beyond basic security functions, these features prioritize user delight and holiday participation. As the smart home market matures, such software-driven experiences become essential for maintaining brand loyalty and keeping hardware relevant throughout the year. ## Sources covering this story - https://www.androidauthority.com/google-nest-doorbell-halloween-chimes-2026-3724608/ — --- _Summary written by Brifing from the original reporting.
