International Distributors Launch Lokia Network to Combat Market Consolidation
Twelve global distributors form a new network to aggregate intelligence and boost IP monetization.
1Global Distribution Alliance Formed
Twelve international film distributors have launched Lokia, a new network incorporated in Luxembourg. The group includes partners from Germany, Turkey, South Korea, and the UK, among others. This initiative aims to address market consolidation and the ongoing decline of the traditional international pre-sales model by fostering closer collaboration between independent entities.
2Strategic Operational Goals
Lokia partners will pool market intelligence, develop content, and pursue licensing opportunities collectively. While members remain standalone financial entities that acquire content individually, the network intends to eventually acquire content as a single unit. This structure allows independent distributors to compete more effectively against global industry giants by increasing their collective influence.
3Founding Vision and Leadership
The network was conceived by Michael Favelle of Odin’s Eye Entertainment and co-founded with Heiko Nemmert. Their primary goal is to solve the challenge of deriving consumer products from independent animated features. By coordinating theatrical and licensing partners early, they aim to create a scalable pipeline for both animated and live-action film projects.
4Technological Infrastructure Integration
Heiko Nemmert developed the Lokia OS, a proprietary operating system that serves as the network's central working environment. The platform allows partners to submit projects, receive revenue forecasts, and view aggregated data before committing capital. This transparency ensures that distributors, financiers, and producers operate within a unified, data-driven framework for all projects.
5Monetization and Licensing Strategy
Former Marvel executive Russell Brown serves as Chief Capital and Monetisation Officer, leading efforts to secure global licensing deals. The network is currently in discussions with partners in the toy, video game, and publishing sectors. These licensing announcements are expected by late 2026, marking a shift toward more orchestrated independent IP monetization.
6Market Validation and Feedback
The Lokia OS enables distributors to provide input during the early development stages of a film. This feedback loop provides production partners with essential market validation, ensuring that films are better aligned with commercial realities. By working in coordination rather than isolation, partners can hedge risks across various territories and rights categories.
7Institutional Support and Governance
Lokia has established a strategic partnership with Fintage House to oversee financial reporting and manage collection accounts. Robbert Aarts, Co-Chairman of Fintage House, will join the Lokia board to provide oversight. This partnership adds a layer of professional financial management to the network’s operations, ensuring transparency for all participating international distribution partners.
8Industry Context and Future
Lokia joins a growing trend of collaborative groupings in the film industry, following the emergence of entities like Vuelta and The Creatives. As the network continues to onboard new partners, its success will depend on its ability to scale its operating system and deliver on its promise of aggressive, unified content acquisition.
