As global freelance payments are expected to reach $2.1 trillion, AI-native workers will account for $775 billion of this market. The stablecoin market cap has doubled in the past two years.

Microbusinesses with fewer than five employees are emerging as the fastest-growing segment in AI adoption. These entrepreneurs making small, frequent payments that traditional banking isn't optimized for represent ideal stablecoin users. Their numbers are projected to grow from 6-10 million today to 17 million.
3Cost advantage
Traditional cross-border payments burden freelancers with high fees and long wait times. Stablecoin transfers via Ethereum layer-2 networks can reduce these costs by 80-90%. Swyftx estimates the average freelancer could save 86% annually on transfer fees by switching to stablecoins.
4Institutional infrastructure opportunity
The report suggests that institutional services supporting this new payment ecosystem (liquidity, custody, and yield) could create significant revenue streams. By 2033, these infrastructure services might generate a $1.3 billion market assuming 0.5% total transaction costs.

Another potential driver for stablecoin volume comes from AI agents being unable to open bank accounts. Their likely use of crypto assets for payments could create new use cases, particularly in automated payment systems, further boosting stablecoin adoption.
