1Project Key Features

Casa Diez Pies is located on a steep slope in Mazunte, Mexico. Designed by Studio Font, the house adopts a modular approach to adapt to the 40% inclined rocky terrain. The 250-square-meter project was completed in 2025, blending seamlessly with its challenging environment.

2Architectural Approach

The design was created by repeating a single module four times and offsetting it by 50 cm in plan and section. This method facilitated the structure's adaptation to existing topography and vegetation. The project sits 50 meters above Rinconcito Beach, offering stunning views.

3Structural Details

The house prioritizes energy efficiency and environmental sustainability, with electrical engineering by KOVA and mechanical engineering by FREMER. Structural engineering was handled by F. Calleja, while construction was led by Efraín Salinas Ríos, ensuring quality execution.

4Location Significance

Mazunte is a tranquil coastal town in Oaxaca, Mexico, known for its Pacific coastline. The project's proximity to Punta Cometa enhances its connection with natural beauty. The area is significant for ecological tourism and sustainable development initiatives.

5Design Challenges

The steep, rocky terrain presented substantial construction challenges. Architects successfully balanced respect for topography with modern living standards. The rocky ground required innovative foundation solutions, demonstrating creative problem-solving in difficult conditions.

6Architectural Significance

Casa Diez Pies stands out as a successful architectural project executed despite challenging terrain conditions. Its modular design approach serves as a replicable model for similar topographies. The project represents sustainable, environmentally sensitive architecture at its best.
