MEXC Report: 85% of Crypto Traders Use AI With Strict Capital Limits
Most crypto traders leverage AI for research but restrict automated execution to protect funds.
1High AI Adoption Rates
The survey of 3,708 traders reveals that 84.8% of participants utilized AI for research or trading within the last six months. Younger demographics aged 18 to 34 show the highest engagement at 88.5%. Conversely, non-users cite high entry barriers and difficulty getting started as primary obstacles rather than inherent mistrust of technology.
2Research Dominates Execution
AI usage remains heavily skewed toward preparation rather than direct trade execution. Approximately 54.3% of users rely on AI for summarizing news, while 48.6% use it for market analysis. Only 7.6% of respondents identified direct execution as a primary task, reflecting a clear preference for human-led decision-making over fully autonomous trading agents.
3Performance Perception Gap
User sentiment regarding AI performance is mixed across different trading stages. While 58.3% of traders report improved market research outcomes, only 46% claim better trade execution. Notably, 23.1% of users reported that AI-assisted execution actually worsened their results, highlighting the current limitations of automated agents in volatile cryptocurrency market environments and complex trade scenarios.
4Cautious Capital Allocation
Traders are hesitant to grant AI full control over their portfolios. Only 54% of respondents would allow AI to manage funds, and even then, most cap this at 20% of their total account balance. A mere 6.5% of users are willing to authorize AI to manage more than half of their total assets.
5Risk Mitigation Strategies
Willingness to use automated trading increases significantly when protective guardrails are introduced. Adoption rates rise from 55% to 71.8% when platforms implement specific limits on leverage, positions, and losses. Traders prioritize the ability to pause operations and revoke permissions, viewing these controls as essential requirements for integrating AI into their daily trading routines.
6Security and Technical Oversight
Blockchain security firm Hacken emphasizes that withdrawal restrictions alone are insufficient to prevent losses. Agents can be manipulated into buying assets at inflated prices or taking excessive exposure. Consequently, the report advocates for independent security testing and hard-coded limits on orders and positions that function independently of the AI agent's own internal logic.
7Preference for Customizable Safety
Approximately 46.2% of traders prefer exchanges to offer optional safety settings, nearly double the 25.7% who favor uniform, platform-wide requirements. Despite this desire for individual control, 97.8% of users still support at least one mandatory industry standard, such as a knowledge test or risk assessment, before gaining access to AI-powered trading tools.
8The Future of AI Trading
The findings suggest that the next phase of AI integration in finance depends on establishing clear boundaries. Traders demand a hybrid model where AI handles data-heavy research tasks while humans retain strict oversight of capital. Platforms must balance this need for user autonomy with robust, non-negotiable security protocols to ensure long-term adoption.
