McCain Foods Expands Indian Presence with Falcon Agrifriz Acquisition

Deal adds modern processing capacity and expands regional contract farming network in Gujarat.

1Strategic Asset Acquisition in Gujarat

Canadian frozen food giant McCain Foods Ltd. agreed to acquire Falcon Agrifriz Foods’ potato processing operations in Gujarat, India. The deal integrates a modern processing facility designed for both domestic supply and export markets, supporting the company's long-term regional expansion strategy without disclosing transaction financial terms.

2Strengthening Processing Infrastructure

The acquired facility was built from scratch in under two years as a fully automated plant. Integrating this purpose-built operational asset provides McCain with immediate manufacturing capacity, optimizing product flow and creating network flexibility to serve growing consumer demand across local and international retail sectors.

3Scaling Agricultural Supply Chains

Securing raw materials remains critical for large-scale potato processors. Through this acquisition, McCain absorbs commercial partnerships with more than 1,000 regional growers across Gujarat. This intake expands the company's existing procurement network, which already collaborates with over 2,500 contracted farmers throughout agricultural regions in India.

4Workforce Expansion and Integration

Upon deal completion, McCain will onboard Falcon Agrifriz’s specialized workforce of more than 450 employees. This operational addition complements McCain’s current direct domestic headcount of 940 workers, allowing the business to quickly absorb operational expertise and maintain continuous manufacturing without staffing friction.

5Sequential Capital Investments in India

This takeover follows a recently finalized $135-million expansion of McCain's existing manufacturing footprint in Gujarat, which generated 110 full-time and 150 contract positions. These cumulative capital deployments demonstrate structured reinvestment to solidify processing dominance in key agricultural corridors over nearly 30 years of domestic operations.

6Falcon Group Portfolio Reallocation

Seller Falcon Agrifriz operates as an agribusiness division of Falcon Group, an Indian conglomerate with holdings across seafood, real estate, finance, and minerals. Divesting the automated potato unit allows Falcon Group to optimize its corporate portfolio while transferring operations to an established global frozen food specialist.

7Leveraging Global Operational Scale

Founded in 1957 in New Brunswick, McCain maintains massive operational scale with 49 production plants spanning six continents and approximately 22,000 employees. Incorporating the Gujarat plant leverages standard processing protocols and international distribution channels to improve overall capacity utilization across regional manufacturing clusters.

8Next Steps Toward Deal Completion

Finalizing the acquisition remains subject to customary regulatory approvals and standard closing conditions. Once finalized, operational attention will shift toward integrating factory workflows, synchronizing farmer procurement contracts, and aligning quality standards across McCain’s combined manufacturing base in Western India.
