Google Home Receives Major Voice Update
Enhanced Spotify controls, lighting adjustments and broadcast features introduced.
1Enhanced Voice Control for Spotify
Google Home and Gemini for Home users can now more accurately identify artist names and playlists on Spotify. Success rates for personal requests like 'Liked songs' have improved. Personal results require activation in settings. This update significantly streamlines the music listening experience for smart home enthusiasts.
2Precision Smart Lighting Adjustments
Users can now give specific voice commands like 'Make the living room lights 2700 kelvins.' Color temperature settings allow personalized ambient lighting. This feature works particularly well for creating relaxing evening environments. Compatible with Philips Hue and similar smart bulbs.
3Simplified Broadcast System
The new two-step broadcast command system lets users first say 'Hey Google, broadcast message' then follow with the message content separately. Previously required delivering everything in one long command. This change proves especially useful in multi-story homes.
4European Smart Lock Support
Google Home app now offers separate lock and latch control for European-style smart locks. Physical door status ('Locked and latched') displays at a glance. Works with compatible models like Yale and Nest x Yale locks. Important security upgrade for smart home owners.
5Consistent Temperature Units
Celsius or Fahrenheit preferences now apply consistently across all devices and voice commands. Fixed half-degree rounding issues in thermostat settings (like 76.5°F). Users can select preferred units in the Google Home app settings menu.
6Android and iOS Improvements
Android users benefit from fixed 360p streaming issues - cameras now automatically stream in HD. iOS camera app crashes reduced and control buttons remain visible during connection issues. These updates particularly matter for security camera users.
7Subscription Alert System
Google Home Premium users now receive in-app notifications for payment failures. Allows updating payment information before losing premium features like camera history. Especially beneficial for frequent travelers maintaining home security.
8New Era in Home Automation
This update strengthens Google's position in home automation. Spotify improvements attract music lovers while lighting controls appeal to comfort-focused users. For multi-device households, Google Home becomes a smarter, more consistent control center.
