Clap Studio Transforms Iconic Spanish Nightclub into a Sound Sanctuary
A Valencia techno temple reimagined for pure acoustic experience.
1The Challenge of Soundproofing
For club owners or those with noisy neighbors, containing sound is essential. However, eliminating unwanted noise is notoriously difficult. Dead rooms, designed to absorb all sound reflections, require specialized materials and acoustic expertise. Clap Studio drew on this concept to reimagine a room in Valencia's iconic SPOOK nightclub, focusing on achieving pure sound.
2SPOOK: A Temple of Techno
SPOOK has been a cornerstone of Valencia's electronic dance scene for decades. Part of La Ruta del Bakalao, an 18-mile club circuit, it captivated Spain and Europe in the 1980s and '90s. Clap Studio was tasked with reimagining one of SPOOK's rave rooms, aiming for architecturally pure sound—crisp, clear, and direct, akin to a recording studio.
3Architectural Innovations
The 1,500-square-foot space features spiky pyramid forms extending the ceiling, pillars, and walls. Some are made of dark gray concrete, while others use polyurethane foam, doubling as acoustic paneling. This design reinforces the room's austere energy while enhancing its acoustic properties.
