1From Historic Factory to Modern Space

Originally established in 1958 as Hangzhou Chemical Fiber Factory, the site was converted in 2003 into one of the city's first creative industry parks. Now, under the leadership of line+ studio, this industrial heritage along the Grand Canal is being reborn as a contemporary living space.

2Architectural Approach

Led by Peidong Zhu, the team is pioneering a unique approach to revitalizing old factory buildings in high-density urban centers. They aim to strike a balance between preserving industrial heritage, urban renewal, and modern needs.

3Project Details

Spanning 95,901 m², LOFT49 was designed by a multidisciplinary team. Alongside architecture, interior and landscape design, mechanical/electrical systems were carefully planned. Set for completion in 2025, the project will enrich Hangzhou's cultural fabric.

4Collaboration Network

While line+ studio leads the project, Zhejiang Antao Design handles landscape architecture, with various engineering firms managing infrastructure. This extensive collaboration ensures a comprehensive transformation.

5Urban Impact

LOFT49 isn't just a building restoration but an urban renewal model. This Grand Canal project demonstrates how industrial heritage can be preserved while integrating with the city's social and economic life.

6Model for Creative Industries

This transformation serves as an inspiring example for other cities. By showing how old industrial spaces can be repurposed for the creative economy, it contributes to sustainable urban development.
