MEXC Sees 21% Surge in New Token Traders and 31% Growth in Tokenized Stocks
Crypto exchange reports strong August performance across both crypto and traditional asset markets.
1New token trading surges
MEXC reported a 21% month-over-month increase in users trading new tokens in August 2026. The top-performing token, Niu Lai, saw peak gains of 14,143%, while the average peak gain among top 10 tokens was 3,358% (up 145% MoM). Five of these high-performing tokens also ranked in the top 10 by spot trading volume, collectively accounting for 65% of volume among top new tokens.
2Memecoins dominate volume
While AI, RWA, DeFi, and cross-chain infrastructure projects showed activity, memecoins accounted for 55% of trading volume among top 10 new tokens. This indicates continued retail investor interest in speculative assets despite the presence of utility-focused projects in the market. The remaining 45% of volume was split among more fundamental-driven sectors.
3Tokenized stocks lead TradFi growth
Tokenized stock trading volume grew 31% month-over-month in August, becoming the primary driver of traditional finance (TradFi) spot trading growth. Assets like CRCL, NBIS, and SPCX ranked among top 10 by volume. Gold-related assets also saw strong activity, with PAXG (GOLD) volume rising 43% MoM to lead TradFi spot trading.
4Precious metals futures diverge
While precious metals remained the largest TradFi futures asset class with 32% MoM volume growth, performance varied significantly. XAU volume surged 57% and silver rose 39%, but XAUT declined 10%. This concentration in specific metals suggests selective investor interest rather than broad-based demand across the category.
5Marketing campaigns drive engagement
MEXC launched three major campaigns in August with 1 million USDT prize pools each, focusing on TradFi, xStocks, and MOVE. The TradFi Million-Dollar Gala attracted over 174,000 registrations and generated 4.2 billion USDT in average daily volume. The xStocks campaign featured tokenized versions of traditional stocks like NVDAX and TSLAX.
6Platform differentiation strategy
MEXC's zero-fee model and cross-asset approach appear to be gaining traction. The exchange now serves users in 170+ markets, offering access to crypto, stocks, tokenized assets, and derivatives through a single account. This strategy reduces friction between traditional and crypto markets while maintaining deep liquidity across asset classes.
7CEO's vision for market convergence
MEXC CEO Vugar Usi emphasized the platform's focus on removing barriers between asset classes. The exchange aims to provide fast access to emerging opportunities across crypto and traditional markets, whether in early-stage tokens, stocks, or precious metals, through unified account infrastructure and zero trading fees.
8Implications for fintech evolution
MEXC's August performance highlights growing retail demand for seamless cross-asset trading. The simultaneous growth in speculative crypto tokens and tokenized traditional assets suggests investors are increasingly agnostic about asset class boundaries when opportunities emerge, pointing to deeper convergence between crypto and traditional finance.
