System76 Thelio Mira: The Linux Desktop of My Dreams
A powerful and quiet Linux workstation experience.
1Introduction
System76's 2026 Thelio Mira desktop computer stands out as a powerful and quiet Linux workstation. Equipped with the AMD Ryzen 9000 platform and X870 motherboard, this device offers high performance with PCIe 5.0 support.
2CPU Performance
Thelio Mira offers a wide range of processors, from the 6-core Ryzen 5 9600X to the 16-core Ryzen 9 9950X. The tested Ryzen 9 9950X model easily handles heavy workloads with speeds up to 5.7 GHz.
3Graphics Card
The device features an Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 graphics card. While sufficient for 1080p and 1440p gaming, it falls short for competitive 4K gaming. Pop!_OS allows easy GPU switching.
4AI Capabilities
The Nvidia RTX 5070 is a mid-range card for local AI inference. It excels with 7-8B models like Llama 3.x but offers limited performance for 12-16B models. The Ryzen 9 9950X is a strong CPU for AI tools.
5Cooling System
Thelio Mira's liquid cooling system maintains high clock speeds during prolonged workloads. This system offers a 19% performance boost and a 13-degree temperature drop compared to the previous air-cooled design.
6Memory and Storage
The device supports up to 192 GB of DDR5 memory. With three M.2 NVMe slots and two SATA connections, it offers flexible storage options. The test system includes 2 TB of SSD storage.
7Connectivity Options
Thelio Mira is equipped with 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet, Wi-Fi 7, and Bluetooth 5.2. With 13 USB ports and various audio outputs, it meets all user needs.
8Pop!_OS Operating System
System76's Pop!_OS Linux distribution comes with Nvidia CUDA drivers, providing a significant advantage for AI and graphics-intensive applications.
9Conclusion
System76 Thelio Mira is an excellent choice for those seeking a powerful and quiet Linux workstation. Optimized for AI, graphics, and general workloads, this device delivers the desktop computer of users' dreams.
