Signal Introduces Group Member Labels
Easily identify roles in your group chats with new labeling feature.
1New Feature Announcement
Signal has launched a new feature allowing users to define their roles in group chats through member labels. Now you can easily identify the coach or goalkeeper in your soccer team group chat. This feature is available in the latest versions for Android, iOS, and desktop applications.
2How It Works
Group member labels let users add personal identifiers in group conversations. Tap the group icon to access the 'Member label' option. By default, all members can create labels for themselves, but admins can restrict this permission through group settings.
3Privacy First
True to Signal's core values, group member labels are end-to-end encrypted. The labels you create remain visible only within that specific group chat. Your 'Chef' label in family chat won't appear in your book club conversation.
4Admin Controls
Group administrators can manage label creation permissions. If admins restrict this feature to themselves only, regular members' labels will be automatically removed. Note that no user can create labels for others - only for themselves.
5Usage Scenarios
This feature proves useful in various scenarios: identifying team coaches, project leaders in work groups, or responsibility assignments in family chats. It also works for inside jokes or nicknames specific to each group. Let your creativity shine!
6Future Updates
The Signal team announced they'll continue enhancing group features. Keep your app updated to access upcoming improvements. Try member labels now to personalize your group chat experience.
