Using a water-draining basket, the team can briefly weigh Glinda outside water. This process provides critical data for her health monitoring. ## Positive Reinforcement Training Glinda is motivated to participate in the weighing process with special toys and treats. This training ensures she accepts the basket without issues. Nate Jaros, an aquarium official, notes that this method makes it easier for her to engage in care tasks. ## Critical Data for Health Glinda's weight of 17 pounds is vital for tracking her growth curve and overall health. These measurements also play a key role in creating the right diet plan. Jaros adds that octopuses can temporarily survive outside water. ## Short-Term Safety Outside Water Glinda's brief time outside water during weighing shouldn't be a concern. According to Jaros, octopuses can temporarily live outside water. Glinda's stress-free experience is supported by play and rewards. ## Balance of Play and Nutrition One of Glinda's favorite things is playtime. She often chooses play over snacks but gets both. This balanced approach is crucial for her physical and mental well-being. ## Innovation in Animal Care The method developed by the Aquarium of the Pacific sets new standards in marine animal care. Glinda's story highlights how innovative solutions can significantly impact animal health and welfare. ## Sources covering this story - https://www.popsci.com/environment/weighing-an-octopus-video/ — --- _Summary written by Brifing from the original reporting.
