Historic Facade Transforms into a Live Playlist in Philadelphia

The historic building facade brings the city's musical heritage to the streets.

1The Intersection of Architecture and Music

The facade of the historic Village of Industry Art (VIA) building in Philadelphia hosts a giant music installation throughout the summer. Located at 320 South Broad Street, this project transforms urban architecture into an auditory experience, adding a new dimension to city life.

2A Cultural Celebration on the Streets

Active for two hours daily (11:00-13:00), the installation spreads Philadelphia's soul, jazz, and hip-hop heritage through the streets using specialized speakers mounted on the facade. The free event brings the traditional gallery experience to public spaces.

3Harmony of Design and Function

The 2-meter speakers, developed by the Scout design team and Tim Gleeson, are crafted from Baltic birch and MDF. They offer both a sculptural visual feast and high-quality sound transmission.

4The City's Music Map

A specially curated playlist, created in collaboration with the Philadelphia Music Alliance, brings together significant works from the city's music history. It brings the spirit of the Walk of Fame on Avenue of the Arts to street level.

5A Space for Urban Interaction

The project supports VIA's mission of placing artists at the center of city life. The building's front steps and plaza transform into a natural gathering spot accompanied by music.

6A New Perspective on Public Spaces

Sounds of Philadelphia turns architecture from a passive element into an active cultural transmitter. This innovative way of telling the city's story highlights the potential of public spaces.
