Ripple Integrates RLUSD Stablecoin Into Cross River Banking Infrastructure
Cross River Bank adopts Ripple's RLUSD to enhance real-time payment settlement and treasury operations.
1Strategic Banking Integration
New Jersey-based Cross River Bank is integrating Ripple’s RLUSD stablecoin directly into its Core Operating System. This partnership allows businesses to utilize the XRP Ledger for transactions alongside traditional payment methods like ACH and wire transfers. The integration aims to provide payment providers with greater flexibility when settling complex financial transactions.
2Operational Efficiency Gains
By leveraging the XRP Ledger, businesses can now execute transactions that settle in three to five seconds at a fraction of a cent. The platform enables users to move funds between US dollars and RLUSD seamlessly. This infrastructure supports round-the-clock treasury transfers and cross-border payments through a single API connection.
3Infrastructure Over Parallel Systems
Markus Infanger, SVP of RippleX, emphasizes that stablecoins should function within existing banking infrastructure rather than creating parallel systems. By embedding RLUSD into a regulated platform, the partnership simplifies the user experience for fintechs. This approach allows institutions to maintain compliance while benefiting from the speed of blockchain-based settlement technology.
4Current Geographic Availability
The new service offering involving RLUSD and Cross River Bank is currently restricted to specific US states. While the integration marks a significant step for domestic banking, the rollout remains phased. Businesses operating within these jurisdictions can now access the combined capabilities of traditional banking rails and the XRP Ledger.
5Standard Chartered Custody Support
Standard Chartered has expanded its digital asset custody services to include RLUSD through its DIFC branch in Dubai. This development allows eligible clients to hold the stablecoin securely. Furthermore, the bank is collaborating with Ripple and LMAX Group to utilize RLUSD as eligible collateral for specific trading products and services.
6Risk Management and Collateral
The collaboration with LMAX Group allows the value of RLUSD held in custody to be reflected at trading venues without moving the tokens. This mechanism is designed to reduce transfer-related risks and improve counterparty exposure management. Consequently, institutions can utilize their capital more efficiently while maintaining high security for their digital assets.
7Ripple Mint Platform Utility
In July, Ripple introduced Ripple Mint, a centralized platform for institutions to mint, redeem, and manage RLUSD. The tool enables users to track transactions and move the stablecoin across supported blockchains. This platform serves as a critical component for businesses looking to streamline their treasury operations and payment workflows using RLUSD.
8Global Regulatory Progress
Beyond the US and Dubai, RLUSD is gaining international traction. Japan’s Financial Services Agency has already approved the token for use within the country via SBI VC Trade. These cumulative developments indicate a broader trend of integrating stablecoins into regulated financial frameworks to facilitate faster, more efficient global capital movement.
