Apple FaceID Inventor Aims to Analyze Brain Health with AI
Hemispheric uses deep learning models to diagnose cognitive disorders.
1Apple FaceID Inventor’s New Project
Gidi Littwin, co-inventor of Apple’s FaceID and Vision Pro technologies, has spent the last six years developing an AI model that can diagnose cognitive disorders by analyzing brain activity. Littwin founded Hemispheric for this project and raised $52 million in funding.
2Brain Data Collected from 100,000 People
Hemispheric collected brain data from 100,000 people across Asia, Tel Aviv, and Boston to train deep learning models. This data enables the analysis of brain health without traditional invasive methods.
3Measuring Brain Activity Through Games
Participants engaged in game-like activities that activated different parts of their brains. The data collected helped train an AI model that analyzes brain functions based on electrical activity.
4Clinical Trials for PTSD and Alzheimer’s
Hemispheric has proven that its model can diagnose conditions like PTSD, schizophrenia, and depression. The company is now conducting clinical trials to test its ability to diagnose and even predict Alzheimer’s.
5FDA Approval and 2027 Launch
The company will submit its first product, focused on PTSD, for FDA approval in early 2024. The product is planned for public release in 2027, aiming to make brain health analysis as simple as a blood test.
6AI Revolution in Healthcare
Hemispheric believes AI-assisted diagnostic tools will revolutionize healthcare. The company is developing new brain scanners that provide better data than traditional EEGs and aims to lead in this field.
