While it makes some compromises like lacking a telephoto camera and having a smaller screen, this price difference offers a budget-friendly option—a significant advantage in today's rising smartphone market. ## Unique tablet form factor When unfolded, the Z Fold 8 provides a true tablet experience with a 4:3 aspect ratio. Unlike traditional square foldables, it's better suited for content consumption and reading. The cover screen also features a shorter design that enables easier one-handed use. ## Camera performance While the absence of a telephoto lens seems like a drawback, the 50MP main camera delivers 'social media-ready' results with up to 10x digital zoom. Though it misses the 200MP sensor of the Ultra model, it still offers sufficient performance for daily use. ## App compatibility The 10:16 aspect ratio of the cover screen raises questions about app compatibility. While demo unit apps worked flawlessly, it remains uncertain whether all apps will optimize for this unique form factor. ## iPhone threat and Samsung's move Samsung's choice of this design was influenced by the impending competition from a foldable iPhone expected to launch soon. The company aims to maintain market leadership by differentiating itself with this innovative form factor. ## A potential sleeper hit Despite lacking the 'Ultra' branding, the Z Fold 8 could become a surprise hit thanks to its price-performance balance and distinctive design. While long-term success depends on further testing, it has already emerged as one of the most intriguing models. ## Sources covering this story - https://www.zdnet.com/article/samsung-galaxy-z-fold-8-ultra-hands-on/ — --- _Summary written by Brifing from the original reporting.
