Binance Expands into Traditional Markets with Stock Options
Offering options on 1,000+ US stocks for non-US users
1Binance's Leap into Traditional Finance
Binance, primarily known for cryptocurrency trading, is expanding into traditional financial markets by offering options on over 1,000 U.S. stocks and ETFs. This move is part of Binance's strategy to evolve into a multi-asset platform, providing users with tools to manage exposure and access strategies traditionally offered by brokers. The service is available to eligible users outside the U.S., with U.S. customers excluded from this rollout.
2Partnerships Driving the Expansion
Binance is collaborating with Nest Trading Limited, regulated by Abu Dhabi Global Market, and Alpaca Securities, a U.S.-registered broker-dealer. Nest acts as the introducing broker, while Alpaca handles execution, clearing, settlement, and custody. This partnership enables Binance to offer physically settled options, where users receive or deliver the underlying shares held by Alpaca on their behalf.
3Physically Settled Options Explained
The options offered by Binance are physically settled, meaning if exercised, users receive or deliver the actual shares or ETF units. Alpaca Securities holds these shares in custody for Binance users. Eligible retail traders can buy calls and puts, with losses limited to the premium paid. Exercise requests can be submitted up to 30 minutes before expiry.
4Trading Hours and Exceptions
Stock options on Binance will be available for trading during regular U.S. market hours from 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM ET. Certain ETF and ETN options may continue trading until 4:15 PM ET due to late-close exceptions. This schedule aligns with traditional market trading hours, providing users with familiar trading windows.
5Surge in TradFi Perpetual Futures
Binance's TradFi perpetual futures volume reached $433.4 billion in August 2026, a significant increase from $29.5 billion in January. Equity-linked perpetuals accounted for 79% of this activity, with August volume hitting $342.9 billion. This surge highlights the growing demand for Wall Street assets on crypto platforms.
6Emerging Markets Driving Volume
Binance reported that over 80% of direct stock-trading volume during the first week of its U.S. stocks and ETFs offering came from users in emerging markets. This indicates strong interest from these regions in accessing traditional financial assets through Binance's platform.
7Binance's Multi-Asset Platform Vision
Shunyet Jan, Binance’s head of exchange and trading, emphasized that stock options are a crucial step in Binance's evolution into a multi-asset platform. By offering options on U.S. stocks and ETFs, Binance aims to provide users with comprehensive tools for equity market participation and exposure management, all from a single account.
8Implications for the Crypto-TradFi Convergence
Binance's expansion into traditional financial markets signifies a broader trend of convergence between crypto and traditional finance. By offering a range of financial products, including crypto, stocks, ETFs, and options, Binance is positioning itself as a super app catering to diverse investment needs, potentially reshaping the landscape of global finance.
