Robinhood Q3 Revenue Reaches $1.42 Billion Despite Crypto Decline
Record revenues driven by options and event contracts offset significant crypto trading losses.
1Record Revenue Performance
Robinhood reported $1.42 billion in revenue for the third quarter of 2026, representing a 12% increase compared to the previous year. CFO Shiv Verma attributed this growth to the successful execution of the company's product roadmap. Total platform assets reached $396 billion, marking a significant 19% jump driven by higher equity valuations.
2Crypto Segment Struggles
The crypto business faced a sharp decline, with revenue falling 55% to approximately $120 million. Trading volume on the main app dropped 48% year-over-year to $21 billion, while Bitstamp volume decreased by 28% to $29 billion. This performance highlights a stark contrast to the growth seen in other segments of the platform.
3Growth in Trading Products
Transaction-based revenue rose 19% to $867 million, largely supported by event contracts and options. Event contracts generated $173 million, marking a sixfold increase. Meanwhile, options revenue climbed 31% to $399 million, and equities grew 41% to $121 million. These gains effectively offset the substantial revenue losses experienced within the crypto trading division.
4Net Income and Expenses
Net income reached $476 million, though this figure is 14% lower than the same quarter last year. Operating expenses increased by 16% to $739 million, primarily due to higher credit loss provisions. The income figure includes $67 million in unrealized losses tied to the mark-to-market valuation of the Robinhood Venture Fund 1.
5Interest Revenue Decline
Net interest revenue fell to $415 million, representing a 9% slide compared to previous periods. The company stated that this decline was primarily caused by lower securities lending activity and shifting short-term interest rates. This reduction in interest income contributed to the overall pressure on the firm's bottom-line net income growth.
6Customer Growth and Expansion
The platform saw a 7% increase in funded customers, reaching a total of 28.7 million users. Internationally, Robinhood launched crypto trading in the UK and secured authorization from the Dubai Financial Services Authority. The firm plans a full rollout in the Dubai region by 2027 to further expand its global footprint.
7Robinhood Chain Performance
Launched in June, the Robinhood Chain quickly became a top-five chain by revenue and volume. In its first quarter, it generated over $80 billion in decentralized exchange volume and more than $50 million in revenue. This new infrastructure represents a significant diversification effort beyond the company's traditional centralized trading platform offerings.
8Future Cost Outlook
Management has adjusted its 2026 operating expenses and stock-based compensation outlook downward by $25 million. The new guidance range is set between $2.675 billion and $2.75 billion. This strategic cost trimming aims to balance the firm's aggressive international expansion plans with the need to maintain profitability amid volatile market conditions.
