YSG draws inspiration from Mojave desert for Sydney warehouse conversion
A historic warehouse transformed into a modern workspace.
1From Historic Warehouse to Modern Workspace
YSG Studio has transformed a historic warehouse in Sydney's Redfern area into a modern workspace. Built in the early 1900s, the warehouse previously served as an art gallery and residential space. YSG Studio redesigned the area to create a contemporary working environment.
2Inspiration from the Mojave Desert
The project draws inspiration from the open skies and sandy landscapes of the Mojave Desert. The client, inspired by travels to Cape Town and South Texas, wanted the space to be revitalized with color and light. This approach moved away from the original minimalist design of the warehouse.
3Layers of Texture and Color
YSG Studio replaced the warehouse's original white walls and black details with layers of texture and color inspired by Mojave design. Wood panels, textured hemp render, and geometric patterns added warmth and a welcoming atmosphere to the space.
4Social Spaces and Work Areas
Cinderella House spans three floors and includes work desks, a kitchen, dining area, and living room. A central courtyard and a meeting room with a balcony form the heart of the space. This design encourages employees to exchange ideas and collaborate.
5Mojave Details in Every Corner
Each area features South Texas country themes and Mojave design details. Geometric patterned rugs, vintage furniture, and textured textiles add character to the space. Custom-designed rugs reflect high desert landscapes, enhancing the overall aesthetic.
6Balancing Work and Socialization
YSG Studio balanced work and social areas in this project. The kitchen and living areas encourage employees to come together and exchange ideas. This design serves as an example of how modern workspaces should be structured, fostering collaboration and creativity.
