Faraday Future Launches Affordable Humanoid Robots for Education and Development
Faraday Future and FFR introduce the $2,490 FF Nova to advance embodied AI accessibility.
1Strategic Robotics Expansion
Faraday Future and FF EAI Robotics Ecosystem officially launched two humanoid robots on 15 October. The flagship FF Nova targets developers and educational institutions, while the FF Nova Mini is designed for children. This move signifies a major pivot for the company, which previously focused primarily on electric vehicle manufacturing and development.
2Acquisition and Corporate Restructuring
The launch follows a definitive agreement for FFR to acquire Faraday Future’s robotics business in an all-stock transaction valued at approximately $200 million. Upon closing, expected by the end of October, Faraday Future will retain a 65.7% ownership stake in FFR. FFR was formerly known as AIxCrypto Holdings until 30 September.
3Technical Specifications of Nova
The FF Nova stands 49.7cm tall and weighs 2.8kg, featuring 20 degrees of freedom for complex movement. It supports the ROS 2 framework and includes a detachable wheeled base for enhanced mobility. Developers can purchase an optional software package for $390 to further customize the robot's capabilities and integrate specific applications.
4Embodied AI Integration
The companies market the Nova as the first embodied AI humanoid robot available in the US under $2,500. By utilizing Nvidia’s Isaac platform, developers can simulate and train robot skills before deploying them onto the physical hardware. This integration aims to bridge the gap between laboratory research and practical, real-world robotic applications.
5Phased Market Rollout
Distribution of the FF Nova will occur in three distinct phases. The initial rollout is restricted to 100 units reserved for invited developers and schools, with 20 units currently ready for shipment. Broader developer sales and a full consumer launch are planned for the future, though specific dates remain unconfirmed by the companies.
6Educational Focus for Children
The FF Nova Mini targets children aged eight and older, weighing under 1kg. It supports block-based programming to encourage early STEM learning. Faraday Future also offers a $499 educational course consisting of 16 live online classes, which includes a voucher that can be applied toward the purchase of the Nova Mini robot.
7Operational Performance Metrics
Faraday Future began its strategic pivot toward robotics earlier this year. According to reported data, the robotics unit had already successfully shipped 817 units by the end of September. This existing production volume provides a baseline for the company as it attempts to scale the new Nova product line for broader markets.
8Future Industry Implications
The entry of Faraday Future into the affordable robotics space highlights a growing trend of bringing sophisticated AI hardware to educational and developer communities. By leveraging existing stock-based deals and established software frameworks like ROS 2, the company aims to democratize access to humanoid technology, potentially influencing future robotics development standards.
