1New Geospatial Dashboard Launched

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India launched the Network Anubhav Platform on Wednesday. This geospatial dashboard integrates consumer-generated test data with independent drive test results. It aims to provide transparent, location-based insights into network speeds and call quality, allowing users to compare different telecom operators across various regions in India.

2Data Sources and Integration

The platform aggregates information from TRAI’s MySpeed and MyCall applications alongside official audit reports. By combining these sources, the regulator creates an integrated view of network performance. This approach provides a third data stream, enabling TRAI to discuss specific problem areas with telecom service providers using objective, location-specific performance metrics.

3Consumer-Centric Performance Metrics

Users can view performance data categorized by cellular or fixed broadband services. The platform utilizes percentile values, such as P50 for median speeds, to represent network quality. It also allows consumers to compare coverage maps and performance at specific locations, such as their homes or workplaces, helping them make informed choices.

4Interface for Service Providers

Telecom service providers access a secure, separate interface containing anonymized data on call quality, coverage, and internet tests. This portal includes technical parameters, timestamps, and location details, enabling operators to identify specific zones requiring infrastructure upgrades. It also provides access to individual independent drive test reports for further internal analysis.

5Expanding Data Through SDKs

To increase the volume of real-world measurements, TRAI allows eligible third-party applications to integrate its MySpeed SDK. This strategy aims to expand participation and gather more diverse connectivity data. By encouraging wider usage, the regulator hopes to enhance the coverage and utility of the information displayed on the public dashboard.

6Integrated Spam Management Tools

The portal now hosts a web interface for Do Not Disturb services, previously restricted to mobile apps. Consumers can manage commercial communication preferences, submit spam complaints, and track their status. By centralizing these functions, the platform allows users to view their network quality and spam complaint history in one location.

7Regulatory Transparency and Participation

TRAI Chairman Anil Kumar Lahoti emphasized that effective regulation requires consumer experience data. The platform empowers citizens to participate in strengthening digital infrastructure by reporting issues. This initiative reflects a shift toward transparency, where user inputs directly influence how the regulator identifies and addresses gaps in national telecom service quality.

8Future Development and Utility

Described as a continuous journey, the platform will evolve based on feedback from both consumers and telecom operators. While user tests do not replace standard methodology, they offer valuable insights into real-world experiences. The regulator continues to urge citizens to contribute data regularly to ensure the map remains accurate and useful.
