Firefox 153 Enables Containers by Default - Here's How to Use Them
New security and privacy features in Firefox's latest update.
1Firefox's New Security Move
Mozilla has enabled Containers by default in Firefox 153. This feature isolates data between tabs, enhancing security and privacy. Users no longer need to manually enable this protection to benefit from it.
2How Containers Work
Firefox Containers ensure each tab operates in its own isolated environment. This prevents sensitive data in one tab from being accessed by malicious sites in another. It also stops different sites from creating profiles about you.
3Pre-configured Container Options
Firefox 153 comes with four ready-to-use containers: Personal, Work, Banking, and Shopping. Users can directly use these or create new containers as needed. Right-click the new tab button to select your desired container.
4Local Network Access Restrictions
Firefox 153 introduces local network access restrictions. Websites now need permission to access devices and services on your local network. This prevents malicious sites from scanning your network devices.
5Permission Management
Users can manage which sites can access which devices via Settings > Permissions and data. This allows granular control over hardware access like microphones and cameras. Note this feature is still experimental.
6Security Meets Usability
Firefox 153 offers a balanced approach - stronger security than standard browsers without the complexity of Tor Browser. Features like Containers and local network restrictions enhance protection while maintaining ease of use.
