1New Wearable Interface

Aina has unveiled a titanium smart ring designed to act as a physical remote for AI agents. Founder Apoorv Shankar aims to solve the bottleneck of constant smartphone interaction. By using a small display and joystick-like button, users can quickly approve or reject tasks suggested by their personal AI assistants.

2Evolution from Project Mirage

The company operated in stealth for 15 months, previously testing experimental hardware under the name Project Mirage. One precursor, the Dune device, allowed users to connect to Macs for context-aware controls. Aina studied these user interactions to refine the ring’s functionality, focusing on seamless integration with daily digital routines and workflows.

3Context Aware Operating System

The ring utilizes a proprietary Context Aware Operating System to suggest actions based on personal data. By analyzing location, calendar, and email, the device anticipates needs like music playback or ride-sharing requests. Users can also configure custom cues using natural language, allowing the ring to trigger specific tasks like operating home appliances.

4Trust Through Visual Confirmation

A key feature of the Aina Ring is its integrated display, which provides immediate confirmation of completed actions. Shankar emphasizes that visual feedback is essential for building user trust in agentic AI. Because AI agents do not always respond instantly, the screen ensures users know exactly when a requested task has succeeded.

5Voice and Audio Capabilities

Beyond task management, the ring includes a built-in speaker and microphone for voice commands. Users can initiate phone calls via voice and hold their hand to their ear to talk. This functionality mirrors other smart rings, positioning the device as a multi-purpose tool for both AI interaction and standard communication needs.

6Pricing and Market Strategy

Preorders for the Aina Ring are currently live with a limited-time price of $399. Once shipping begins in January 2027, the retail price will increase to $499. The company is targeting users who want to streamline their interactions with AI without replacing the smartphone, which Shankar describes as already being too perfect.

7Hardware Industry Background

Founder Apoorv Shankar brings significant experience to the project, having previously served as the vice president of hardware at Ultrahuman. That company produced a fitness-tracking ring that competed with Oura before facing a patent dispute. This background informs Aina’s focus on creating a convenient, wearable form factor for complex AI tasks.

8Future of Agentic Interaction

Aina enters a competitive landscape where companies like Humane and Rabbit have struggled to gain traction. Unlike those devices, Aina does not attempt to replace the phone. Instead, it serves as a peripheral to manage the growing volume of proactive AI tasks, potentially setting a new standard for wearable AI control interfaces.
