Thai Police Secure Crypto Money-Trail Data from Exchanges in Shuffle Probe
Authorities investigate Shuffle.com crypto casino operations using transaction data from three digital asset exchanges.
1Exchange Data Acquisition
Thai cyber police have successfully obtained money-trail data from three digital asset exchanges linked to the Curaçao-registered crypto casino, Shuffle.com. Police Major General Siriwat Deepho confirmed that officials are currently reviewing these transaction flows to plan subsequent enforcement operations. This development follows intense pressure from lawmakers regarding the investigation's pace.
2Task Force Mobilization
To manage the investigation's complexity, authorities have established 80 dedicated task-force teams. The strategy involves building legal cases against individual players within Thailand before targeting the overseas operator directly. This phased approach is necessary because the platform operates entirely on cryptocurrency, bypassing traditional Thai bank account monitoring systems.
3Gulf Binance Findings
During an October 29 hearing, committee chair Rangsiman Rome revealed that Gulf Binance identified two specific wallets connected to 44 individuals. These accounts facilitated approximately $113,000 in volume across more than 400 transactions. These findings provided critical evidence for the ongoing probe into how local users interact with Shuffle.
4Legal Jurisdictional Challenges
Because the operator is based abroad, police are utilizing Section 5 of the criminal code to address offenses committed outside Thailand that impact the nation. Officials must prove domestic involvement before pursuing the foreign entity. This legal framework dictates the current investigative priority of identifying and charging local platform users.
5Exchange Involvement Scope
Former MP Sirichok Sopha reported that four of Thailand’s nine digital asset operators, including Bitkub, Maxbit, and Binance TH, showed on-chain links to Shuffle. Authorities clarified that these links do not imply wrongdoing by the exchanges themselves. These platforms are cooperating by providing the necessary transaction data for the investigation.
6Inter-Agency Coordination
The Department of Special Investigation is currently evaluating whether to classify the Shuffle case as a special investigation. This process involves coordinating with the Securities and Exchange Commission to broaden the scope of the inquiry. Meanwhile, the Digital Economy and Society Ministry officially blocked access to Shuffle.com nationwide on October 9.
7Political and Regulatory Context
The investigation has gained political visibility due to reports involving the spouse of a Bhumjaithai Party lawmaker. Suchada Zhang Thaensap stated her husband holds a 1% stake in an overseas company, denying any connection to criminal networks. This scrutiny occurs alongside broader central bank efforts to monitor large USDT transactions.
8Broader Enforcement Trends
This case reflects Thailand’s tightening oversight of crypto flows, following recent arrests involving a $74 million money laundering ring. By targeting both individual players and platform transaction data, authorities aim to establish a precedent for regulating offshore crypto casinos. Future operations will depend on the evidence gathered from these exchange records.
