World's most advanced robotic servicing satellite launched

Northrop Grumman's dual-armed satellite begins its decade-long mission in space.

1Historic launch accomplished

Northrop Grumman's Mission Robotic Vehicle (MRV), equipped with two flexible robotic arms, successfully launched aboard SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station. The satellite embarks on a planned 10-year mission.

2Unique robotic capabilities

The MRV features two specially designed robotic arms for servicing other satellites in orbit. These arms enable critical operations like refueling, repairs, and even orbital adjustments.

3Deployed with support units

Three Mission Extension Pods (MEPs) launched alongside the MRV. These small propulsion modules can operate as independent spacecraft and will provide support to the main satellite.

4Challenging journey begins

After launch, the satellites will take about a year to transition from their initial elliptical orbit to a circular orbit 36,000 km above the equator, requiring precise maneuvers during this period.

5Strategic positioning

The MRV and MEPs will be positioned in geosynchronous orbit, moving in sync with Earth's rotation. This region also hosts military communication and spy satellites.

6Milestone for space industry

This mission could revolutionize satellite life extension and space debris reduction. If successful, it will accelerate the growth of the space servicing industry.
