1The story of a legendary goal

Pelé's 1959 goal featuring three consecutive sombrero kicks over defenders and the goalkeeper was never properly recorded. This historic moment, preserved only in witnesses' memories for over 60 years, has now been revived through artificial intelligence technology.

2Compiling historical data

Brazilian historian Anita Lucchesi and her team gathered over 2,000 historical documents to accurately reconstruct the goal. Using archival photos, family albums, newspaper clippings and eyewitness accounts, they created a scale model of the stadium. A total of 3,600 historical images were utilized.

3Pushing technology boundaries

The reconstruction employed Google's Veo, Gemini Omni and Nano Banana Pro models. After filming with period-accurate uniforms at the stadium, AI digitally recreated Pelé's facial features, movements and the stadium atmosphere.

4Performance control

To realistically animate Pelé's athletic movements, 3D motion data from a modern stunt player was used. Performance Control technology processed player and environment separately, accurately recreating 1950s pitch conditions and weather.

5Hybrid production process

AI-generated footage was blended with traditional visual effects techniques. VFX teams worked on ball composition, color balancing and film grain effects. The final digital output was processed through a film machine to capture the visual character of 1950s cinema.

6Preserving football heritage

This project demonstrates how technology can preserve unrecorded sports history for future generations. The reconstructed goal is now displayed at the Pelé Museum in Santos, pioneering the digital preservation of football culture.
