Kashmir Police Launch Major Crackdown on Drug Trafficking Networks
Authorities freeze hundreds of bank accounts and arrest thousands in anti-narcotics operation.
1Sweeping Anti-Narcotics Operation
Kashmir Police have initiated a massive crackdown on regional drug trafficking networks throughout this year. Inspector General of Police Sujit Kumar reported that authorities have booked over 1,500 cases under the NDPS Act. This aggressive enforcement strategy has resulted in the arrest of nearly 2,000 individuals involved in illicit peddling activities.
2Financial Network Dismantlement
The operation specifically targets the financial infrastructure supporting drug trade. Authorities have successfully frozen 567 bank accounts linked to suspicious money trails, involving approximately Rs 1.31 crore. Additionally, police have attached properties worth crores belonging to identified peddlers and recovered Rs 1.10 crore in cash to disrupt the illicit supply chain.
3Cybercrime Fraud Investigation
Beyond narcotics, police are addressing a surge in organized online fraud networks. Officials have received complaints regarding scams totaling over Rs 54 crore in recent months. While the recovery process remains challenging, authorities have successfully returned more than Rs 7 crore to victims, representing about 13 to 14 percent of total losses.
4Warning Against Money Mules
IGP Kumar issued a stern warning to youth regarding the risks of becoming involved in organized fraud networks. Many young individuals are being recruited as money mules to facilitate illegal transactions. The police emphasize that participating in these schemes is a criminal offense that carries severe legal consequences for the participants involved.
5Confidentiality for Informers
To strengthen the fight against drug peddling, the police are encouraging public participation through a secure reporting mechanism. The IGP assured citizens that the identity of all informers will be kept strictly confidential. This policy aims to build trust and empower residents to report criminal activities without fear of personal retaliation.
6Support for Addiction Recovery
The police department is actively promoting rehabilitation as a critical component of their strategy. Officials are urging those struggling with drug addiction to seek professional help rather than suffering in silence. The department has pledged to facilitate access to rehabilitation centers for anyone who approaches them for support during this difficult period.
7Strategic Shift in Enforcement
This operation marks the first major press conference by IGP Sujit Kumar since assuming his new role in Kashmir. By focusing on the financial roots of the drug trade, the police are shifting from simple street-level arrests to dismantling the underlying economic systems that sustain these criminal organizations across the entire region.
8Future Outlook and Impact
The success of this crackdown depends heavily on continued community cooperation and vigilance against cyber fraud. By combining strict law enforcement with public outreach and rehabilitation support, the police aim to secure the future of the youth. The ongoing recovery of funds remains a priority for the department in the coming months.
