Priced at just $69.99 compared to competitors above $150, it targets students and young professionals. Launching at IFA 2026 in Berlin on September 4th, this device offers an accessible alternative to Boya's own $149.99 Notra flagship released in February 2026. The Neo makes dedicated AI recording devices finally affordable for those who need them most. ## Core Features Preserved While reducing costs, Notra Neo maintains the flagship's essential AI capabilities. It offers transcription in 140+ languages, speaker identification, summarization, and to-do list generation. With 60+ professional templates for different scenarios, the device also enables AI search across recording history, allowing quick information retrieval. These features position it as a serious tool despite its lower price point. ## Carefully Balanced Specs The $69.99 price comes with calculated compromises: storage drops from 64GB to 8GB, microphone range decreases from 10m to 5m, and battery life reduces from 24 to 20 hours. However, these changes don't impact core functionality for its target audience. Pre-orders begin August 24th, with a special launch discount making it even more accessible at $69.99 instead of the regular $79.99 price. ## Smart Context Detection Notra Neo automatically adjusts recording modes based on usage scenarios. It switches between Ambient mode for in-person conversations, Phone Call mode for calls, and Bluetooth mode for virtual meetings. The 5-meter 360-degree audio pickup covers most classroom or conference table setups without requiring precise positioning. This intelligent adaptation eliminates manual settings adjustments during use. ## Multilingual Capabilities Transcription support for 140+ languages and dialects makes Notra Neo ideal for international students and professionals. Speaker labeling identifies different voices in conversations, particularly useful in multilingual classrooms or global teams. This comprehensive language support sets it apart in the affordable segment of AI recording devices. ## Design and User Experience Notra Neo features a more minimalist design than its flagship counterpart, replacing the 'BOYA Notra AI' label with a simple 'Boya' wordmark. While maintaining the standard square form factor, it presents a younger, more consumer-friendly aesthetic. The design avoids the 'cheap' look often associated with entry-level electronics, making users more comfortable carrying it. ## Boya OS Integration The device seamlessly syncs with Boya OS app and web interface. Users can export recordings in various formats including audio files, transcripts, summaries, or mind maps. This flexibility accommodates different usage scenarios. The AI search functionality enables quick scanning of entire recording histories, transforming the device from a simple recorder into a searchable knowledge base. ## Market Significance Boya Notra Neo democratizes access to AI-powered note-taking technology. Specifically designed for students and young professionals, it removes the price barrier that previously kept many from trying dedicated recording devices. At $69.99, it could establish a new price standard in the category, potentially expanding the market significantly beyond early adopters to mainstream users. ## Sources covering this story - https://www.yankodesign.com/2026/08/25/at-69-99-the-boya-notra-neo-is-the-ai-note-taker-that-students-can-finally-afford/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=at-69-99-the-boya-notra-neo-is-the-ai-note-taker-that-students-can-finally-afford — --- _Summary written by Brifing from the original reporting.
