Plinth House 2 by Luke Stanley Architects
A minimalist residential design in Australia's countryside
1Project Location and Concept
Plinth House 2 is the final piece in a triptych of projects set in the pastoral landscape of Langdons Hill, south of Daylesford. Following the award-winning main house renovation completed in 2014 and the Guest Pod built in 2017, this 227-square-meter structure offers a minimalist living space. The design stands out for its harmony with the surrounding environment.
2Architectural Details and Scale
Spanning 227 square meters, Plinth House 2 was designed by Luke Stanley Architects. The project features products from brands like Bosch kitchen appliances, Brightgreen lighting systems, and Caroma bathroom products. Arc Design + Build handled construction while structural engineering was provided by Onbeam Engineering.
3Material Choices and Sustainability
Wood dominates as the primary material in this project, with details like Phoenix Tapware and Tide Design furniture standing out. Material selections prioritized both aesthetic and functional sustainability. This approach minimizes environmental impact while delivering a natural appearance.
4Design Team and Collaboration
Developed under lead architect Luke Stanley, Plinth House 2 was photographed by Tess Kelly Photography. The team applied lessons from their previous successful projects to this structure. The award-winning 2014 main house renovation and 2017 guest pod are other notable parts of the series.
5Interior Solutions
The residence offers flexible spaces for family and guests. Like previous projects, window arrangements framing natural views are particularly striking. A minimalist language dominates the interiors while prioritizing functionality. Every detail has been carefully considered.
6Contribution to Regional Architecture
The project blends with Langdons Hill's rural character while offering a contemporary interpretation of local architecture. The design preserves the area's natural fabric while meeting modern living standards. This balance emerges as one of the project's most notable aspects.
7Technical Infrastructure and Engineering
Structural solutions provided by Onbeam Engineering ensure the building's durability and longevity. Material performance and resilience were rigorously tested. This approach facilitates the structure's adaptation to climatic conditions.
8Architectural Legacy and Impact
Plinth House 2 solidifies Luke Stanley Architects' architectural language in the region. The complete series represents a strong example of sustainable and aesthetic residential design. This project inspires new thinking about modern living in rural settings.
