1Sony's Portable PS4 Gap

Sony has always designed PlayStation as a home console. The PlayStation Portal came close to meeting the demand for a portable PS4 but streams games from a PS5 rather than running them natively. This gap was filled by a modder.

2PS4P v2: The Second Version

PS4P v2 is the second portable console designed using a PS4 Slim motherboard. Lighter and more efficient than the first version, this device features a 3D-printed shell and resembles a commercial product.

3Technical Specifications

PS4P v2 boasts a 7-inch 1080p OLED display, a fan from a GTX 750 graphics card, and a battery life ranging from 1.5 to 3 hours. It can connect to a TV via HDMI output and supports DualShock controllers.

4Challenges of the DIY Project

This project was executed by a single modder. Making the device smaller and lighter would require modifications to the PS4 Slim motherboard, which exceeds the capacity of one individual.

5Comparison with Commercial Products

While PS4P v2 is heavier than commercial products like the Steam Deck, it runs PS4's actual hardware, allowing games to be played natively without emulation or streaming.

6Sony's Role and the Future

PS4P v2 emerged as an alternative to Sony's lack of a portable PS4. This project demonstrates dedication to specific hardware and could inspire Sony to release a similar product in the future.
