MacBook alternatives showdown: Top Windows laptops that beat Apple in 2026
We tested over 80 laptops to find the best MacBook competitors this year.
1Battery life champions
The HP OmniBook 3 16 with Snapdragon X chip delivers up to 40 hours of battery life, surpassing MacBooks. In the budget category, Acer Chromebook Plus Spin 514 also outperforms MacBook Neo in endurance. These models are ideal for travelers and remote workers. Our tests recorded 18 hours of continuous 4K video playback under standard settings.
2Performance comparison
While MacBook Air (M5) and Pro (M5) show impressive single-core Geekbench 6 scores, Windows Ultrabooks like Asus Zenbook A14 lead in multi-core performance. They offer 15-20% faster processing for intensive tasks like video editing and 3D rendering. This difference is crucial for professional users who demand maximum computing power.
3Value leaders
In the sub-$1000 segment, Acer Chromebook Plus Spin 514 delivers comparable experience to MacBook Neo at 30% lower price. Dell XPS 14 stands out as MacBook Pro alternative with 120Hz display and color accuracy. Windows alternatives became even more attractive after Apple's recent price increases across their lineup.
4New contenders
July 2026 update crowned Dell XPS 14 as best MacBook Pro alternative. Acer Swift X 14 caters to users needing discrete graphics. HP OmniBook Ultra 14's Snapdragon X2 Elite configuration promises 22-hour battery life. Asus ExpertBook Ultra addressed build quality issues to earn its spot in our recommendations.
5Specialized options
Acer Swift X 14 comes with Nvidia RTX 4050 for graphics-intensive work. Asus ProArt GoPro Edition targets professional creators with 128GB RAM but faces criticism for its 60Hz display. Framework Laptop 13 Pro stands out with its repairable design appealing to sustainability-conscious users.
6ARM architecture warning
Snapdragon X2-powered devices like Asus Zenbook A14 use ARM architecture which may have compatibility issues with some PC games and specialty software. Gamers and engineering students might prefer x86-based alternatives. Thorough compatibility testing is recommended before purchase.
7Upcoming models
Dell XPS 13 and Acer Swift Air 14 show promise as MacBook Neo alternatives. Framework Laptop 13 Pro intrigues with modular design. We'll update our recommendations as test results become available. Performance of Intel Panther Lake variants is particularly anticipated in professional circles.
8Final verdict
In 2026, Windows laptops present serious competition to MacBooks. HP leads in battery life, Asus in performance, Acer in value. ARM-based devices suit general users while specialized software users should stick to x86 models. MacBook Neo remains viable for those committed to Apple's ecosystem.
