His scheduled third-round opponent, Matteo Berrettini, withdrew from the tournament citing persistent arm pain. Berrettini confirmed he will undergo medical tests to determine the severity of the injury, ending his campaign in the French capital prematurely. ## Alcaraz Faces Taylor Fritz Following his walkover, Alcaraz prepared to face Taylor Fritz in the last eight. Fritz reached this stage by defeating French favorite Arthur Fils with a score of 6-3, 6-4. This match carried significant weight, as Fritz required a victory over Alcaraz to maintain his qualification hopes for the ATP Finals in Turin. ## Strategic ATP Finals Implications The race for the final spots in the ATP Finals remains highly competitive. Spaniard Rafael Jodar currently holds the last qualifying position despite an early second-round exit. Players like Tommy Paul and Taylor Fritz are under immense pressure to perform in Paris to overtake Jodar in the season-ending rankings race. ## Tommy Paul's Narrow Path American Tommy Paul kept his ATP Finals aspirations alive by defeating Quentin Halys 7-6, 6-4. However, his path remains difficult, as he must reach Sunday's final to have a realistic chance of entering the top nine. Paul is scheduled to face his compatriot Ben Shelton, who survived a three-set battle against Arthur Rinderknech. ## French Hopes and Underdogs With many top seeds facing challenges, Luca Van Assche remains the primary hope for the French crowd. He advanced by defeating Lorenzo Musetti 7-5, 3-6, 6-4. Van Assche is set to face qualifier Ricky Hijikata, who earned his spot in the next round by overcoming Tomas Martin Etcheverry in a competitive match. ## Tournament Structure and Context The Paris Masters is played on indoor hard courts, a surface that favors aggressive baseline play. Alcaraz is currently bidding to reach the semi-finals at this specific venue for the first time in his six career appearances. The tournament serves as a critical final checkpoint for players aiming to qualify for Turin. ## Additional Quarter-Final Matchups The draw also features a notable clash between Portugal's Nuno Borges and Norway's Casper Ruud. Borges entered the main draw as a lucky loser, demonstrating the unpredictable nature of the tournament. These matches are broadcast live, highlighting the depth of talent competing for the final ranking points of the current season. ## Season Conclusion Dynamics The absence of world No. 2 Jannik Sinner for the remainder of the season has significantly altered the qualification landscape for the ATP Finals. As the tournament progresses, the focus shifts toward which players can sustain their physical health and performance levels to secure their spots in the prestigious season-ending event. ## Sources covering this story - [Sky Sports – Tennis — Alcaraz Advances to Paris Masters Quarter-Finals After Berrettini Withdrawal](https://www.skysports.com/tennis/news/12110/13608304/carlos-alcaraz-through-to-rolex-paris-masters-quarter-finals-after-matteo-berrettini-withdraws-injured) - [AS – Portada — Carlos Alcaraz Secures ATP Finals Spot for Rafa Jódar](https://as.com/tenis/masters_1000/alcaraz-no-le-falla-a-jodar-f202611-n/) - [RTL Nieuws — Carlos Alcaraz Advances to Paris Masters Semifinals](https://www.rtl.nl/nieuws/sport/artikel/5663720/tennisser-alcaraz-verslaat-fritz-parijs-jodar-naar-atp-finals) - [Kicker — Alcaraz Reaches First Paris Masters Semifinal After Thrilling Victory](https://www.kicker.de/alcaraz-kaempft-sich-in-paris-erstmals-ins-halbfinale-1269345/artikel#omrss) - [La Gazzetta dello Sport – Ultime — Carlos Alcaraz Advances to Paris Masters Semifinals](https://video.gazzetta.it/tennis/atp/highlights/video-alcaraz-fritz-highlights-lo-spagnolo-mette-a-segno-un-punto-impossibile/d92842f2-6b6a-43eb-b767-637b7d1bdxlk) - [Asharq Al-Awsat — Alcaraz Advances to Paris Masters Semifinals After Thrilling Victory](https://aawsat.com/node/5338452) - [ABC España – Portada — Carlos Alcaraz Reaches Paris Masters Semifinals After Saving Match Points](https://www.abc.es/deportes/tenis/alcaraz-destroza-limite-grande-semifinales-tras-levantar-20261106225818-nt.html) - [Sky Sports – News — Taylor Fritz Misses ATP Finals Spot After Paris Masters Defeat](https://www.skysports.com/tennis/news/12040/13608938/paris-masters-taylor-fritz-squanders-match-points-against-carlos-alcaraz-as-defeat-ends-hopes-of-reaching-atp-finals) - [NOS Sport — Tiafoe and Jódar Secure Final Spots for ATP Finals in Turin](https://nos.nl/l/2638379) --- _Summary written by Brifing from the original reporting.
