HOZO Hobby Knife Features Push-Button Blade Changes and Fold-Out Workspace
A modular hobby knife design integrates a magnetic cutting station with tool-free blade swapping.
1Integrated Crafting Solution
The HOZO Hobby Knife combines a precision cutting tool with a multifunctional carrying case that unfolds into a dedicated workspace. Designed by Tiancheng Liang and Zhida Luo, the system addresses the common issue of craft supplies cluttering tables. It currently features a crowdfunding price of 59 dollars, reduced from 79 dollars.
2Expanding Cutting Surface
The case functions as an organizer that expands to double its surface area when projects grow in complexity. By sliding and unfolding the mat, users maintain a clean, dedicated area for cardboard modeling or detailed assembly. This design ensures that cutting surfaces remain connected to the storage tray throughout the entire process.
3Ergonomic Handle Design
The knife features a hexagonal aluminum handle with flat sides to prevent rolling when placed on flat surfaces. A textured grip and a raised ring provide users with a secure, comfortable hold. This drafting-pencil aesthetic is specifically engineered for tasks requiring high precision, such as following lines and shaping intricate model details.
4Tool-Free Blade Exchange
Changing blades is simplified through a rear-mounted button that operates the internal collet clamp. This mechanism eliminates the need for traditional screw-tightening routines during swaps. Two internal magnets assist in retaining the blade when the clamp is open, ensuring the component stays in position until the user manually removes it for replacement.
5Versatile Attachment Selection
The system supports various attachments beyond standard cutting blades, including chisel profiles, curved edges, U-gouges, V-gouges, a saw, and a metal file. These options allow users to transition from cutting cardboard walls to carving wooden trim or refining edges. The handle remains consistent while the working end adapts to specific material requirements.
6Clean Material Handling
The blades are crafted from hardened 420 stainless steel and are supplied without oily protective coatings. This choice prevents residue transfer onto paper or delicate surfaces during delicate craft work. Magnetic slots within the tray keep each attachment point-down, ensuring that specific shapes are always organized and easily accessible for the user.
7Safe Blade Disposal
The modular case includes a dedicated one-way slot designed specifically for the disposal of spent blades. This feature keeps used edges separate from fresh replacements, maintaining order on the workbench. By integrating storage for both new and used blades, the system encourages a tidy workflow throughout the entire life of the tool.
8Modular Maintenance Strategy
The pouch-and-mat assembly is magnetically detachable, allowing for independent replacement when the cutting surface eventually wears out. This modularity ensures the organizer remains functional even after the mat needs refreshing. The project has successfully raised over 462,000 dollars, with limited units remaining in the current initial production run.
