1Hurun India U35 Recognition

Romita Mazumdar, the founder of Mumbai-based skincare brand Foxtale, has been featured on the Avendus Wealth-Hurun India U35 List 2026. At 31 years old, she stands out as the only woman among the top ten youngest entrepreneurs recognized in this specific cohort, marking her second consecutive appearance on this prestigious annual ranking.

2Foxtale Business Performance

The skincare company recorded a revenue of ₹365 crore in the 2025 financial year. Foxtale operates as a direct-to-consumer brand, focusing on daily skincare needs like cleansers and serums. The business utilizes its own website, various online shopping platforms, and quick-commerce channels to ensure rapid delivery for its growing Indian consumer base.

3Funding and Strategic Growth

Foxtale has successfully raised $56 million, approximately ₹500 crore, in total funding to date. Key investors supporting the brand include Z47, Panthera, Stride Ventures, and Kose Corporation. This capital infusion supports the company's expansion within the competitive consumer goods sector, where seven other entrepreneurs from the list also operate their businesses.

4Marketing and Brand Presence

In August, Foxtale significantly boosted its market visibility by announcing Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan as its official brand ambassador. This strategic partnership aims to strengthen the brand's reach among Indian consumers. The company continues to prioritize everyday skincare solutions, distinguishing itself through targeted product development tailored specifically for local market preferences.

5Professional Background Transition

Before founding Foxtale in February 2021, Mazumdar built a career in finance and investment analysis. She served as a technology analyst at Bank of America Merrill Lynch in Palo Alto from 2017 to 2019. Later, she worked as an investment analyst at A91 Partners in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region until early 2021.

6Academic and Early Foundations

Mazumdar studied business economics and financial mathematics at UCLA between 2013 and 2017. During her time there, she participated in LA Hacks and the Bruin Value Investing group. Her earlier education at Delhi Public School included leadership roles as president of the student council and chair of the National Sports Tournament.

7Challenging Industry Stereotypes

Mazumdar has actively addressed stereotypes regarding the business acumen of the Bengali community. By citing successful examples like Emami and Boroline, she emphasizes that cultural background does not dictate entrepreneurial success. She advocates for a narrative where personal drive and strategic execution remain the primary factors in building a sustainable, high-growth business.

8Broader Entrepreneurial Landscape

The 2026 Hurun list features 23 women, including 11 first-generation founders and 12 family business leaders. Women account for 12.8% of all entrepreneurs recognized in this edition. This data highlights the ongoing shift in the Indian startup ecosystem, where female founders are increasingly securing prominent positions alongside their male counterparts in high-growth sectors.
