Apple Launches MacBook Pro With PROLED XDR Display and Touchscreen
Apple introduces a premium MacBook Pro featuring tandem OLED technology and touchscreen input capabilities.
1New Premium MacBook Pro Lineup
Apple has officially announced the MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display, positioned as a luxury addition to its existing professional lineup. Available in 14-inch and 16-inch configurations, the base models start at $2,899 and $3,399 respectively. This represents a $400 price increase over comparable non-OLED models currently available in the market.
2First Touchscreen Mac Integration
This device marks Apple’s first integration of touchscreen input into the Mac ecosystem. The touch sensor is embedded directly into the display panel to minimize latency. While traditional trackpad and keyboard inputs remain, users can now utilize familiar gestures like swiping, pinching, and double-tapping to interact with the macOS 27 Golden Gate interface.
3Tandem OLED Display Technology
The laptop features a tandem OLED display, stacking two panels to achieve superior contrast and deeper blacks. Marketed as Ultra Retina XDR, it delivers 1,000 nits sustained full-screen brightness and 2,000 nits peak for HDR content. This display engine manages luminance and color at a sub-millisecond level, effectively functioning as a portable reference monitor.
4Dynamic Island and AI Integration
The notch has been replaced by the pill-shaped Dynamic Island, serving as a central hub for notifications and Live Activities. On this model, it functions as an anchor point for Spotlight and Siri AI interactions. When these features are activated, the text input window appears directly beneath the pill-shaped interface element.
5Refined Design and Portability
Apple has reduced the physical footprint of the new MacBook Pro models. The 14-inch version weighs 3 pounds, while the 16-inch model weighs 4 pounds, representing a weight reduction of 0.5 and 0.6 pounds respectively. Notably, the iconic glowing Apple logo returns to the lid, a design element absent from the lineup since 2015.
6M5 Pro and Max Performance
The new laptops are powered by M5 Pro or M5 Max chips. The M5 Max chip demonstrates a 12 percent improvement in multi-core CPU performance and a 7 percent increase in single-core speeds compared to the M4 Max. Configurations support up to 128GB of RAM and massive 16TB SSD storage capacities for demanding professional tasks.
7Enhanced Audio and Stabilization
The device includes a six-speaker audio system featuring a redesigned woofer for improved bass response. Apple also implemented advanced video stabilization for the camera, specifically designed to smooth feeds during video calls while using touch input. Additionally, the system supports audio tuning for scenarios where the laptop is used with the lid closed.
8Market Availability and Positioning
Pre-orders for the new MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display are currently live, with initial shipments scheduled to begin on November 6. By maintaining the existing non-OLED MacBook Pro models in the lineup, Apple is clearly segmenting its professional audience, targeting users who require specific color accuracy and advanced touch-based interaction workflows.
