NVIDIA data centers cooled with hot tub-temperature water

45°C liquid cooling revolutionizes energy and water consumption.

1The hot water cooling paradox

NVIDIA's new AI servers use coolant heated up to 45°C (113°F). Unlike traditional systems, this method reduces cooling energy needs by up to 40%. The hot liquid naturally dissipates heat outdoors without mechanical chillers.

2Energy efficiency breakthrough

Rubin-generation AI infrastructure is fully liquid-cooled. Cooling previously accounted for 40% of data center electricity bills. Every 1°C increase in coolant temperature now cuts energy costs by 4%, saving $4M annually for 50MW facilities.

3Dramatic water savings

Conventional systems consume ~2.6M gallons of water per MW annually. NVIDIA's closed-loop system reduces this to near zero, eliminating evaporative cooling towers and continuous water drainage.

4Stable chip performance

Coolant entering at 45°C absorbs chip heat and exits at 55°C. Liquid-cooled plates maintain safe operating temperatures for full-performance operation. Geographic location matters, but mechanical chillers become unnecessary.

5Silent and compact design

Rubin architecture eliminates noisy fans and cooling systems. Configurations that required six rack units now fit in two. Data centers no longer need hearing protection for workers.

6Sustainable data centers

This technology addresses chronic issues like high energy/water consumption, noise pollution, and space requirements. While not retrofitting existing centers, it sets a new standard for future facilities.
