Reddit Transforms Text Posts into Audio and Video Formats
The platform is testing new features allowing users to listen to and watch posts.
1Reddit's New Experiment
Reddit is working on new features that allow users to listen to or watch text-based posts and comments as short videos. This test has been launched on a limited group of users on the platform's app and website. The company states that these features will remain linked to the original text posts and will not change.
2AI-Powered Voiceover
Reddit is converting old posts into video format using AI-generated voices. For example, an eight-year-old 'road trip game suggestions' post was transformed into a three-minute video. The video narrates the post's question and the most popular replies. The video is presented alongside the text posts.
3The Rise of Video Comments
Reddit introduced video comments in June 2026. This feature allows users to add videos to comments and watch them in a full-screen player. This update highlights the platform's investment in video-based content.
4User Experience Focus
Reddit CEO Steve Huffman stated that this change aims to increase users' time spent on the platform. Huffman said, 'A new content type is emerging on the internet where people read Reddit content.' This feature aims to boost user engagement.
5Limited Testing Phase
Reddit announced that audio and video posts are currently being tested only in select communities. The company is collecting data to understand how useful users find these features. The test results will determine whether the feature will be rolled out platform-wide.
6The Future of the Platform
Reddit's move is part of its effort to modernize its traditional text-based structure. The company is investing in new content formats like video and audio to attract new users and retain existing ones.
7User Feedback
Reddit stated that this experiment focuses on understanding how users find the experience of listening to and watching posts. The company plans to develop the features based on user feedback. This process will shape the platform's future strategies.
8Reddit's Innovative Step
Reddit's testing of audio and video posts demonstrates its effort to redefine the user experience. These features aim to adapt Reddit's traditional structure to modern content consumption habits.
