Gateway Mining Launches Five-Rig Exploration Blitz at Yandal Gold Project

Gateway Mining accelerates drilling operations in Western Australia to expand its gold resource inventory.

1Operational Momentum Restored

Gateway Mining has transitioned from a period of operational delays to an aggressive five-rig exploration campaign at its Yandal project. After completing only five holes in six weeks, the company secured a third reverse-circulation contractor. This shift now enables a combined average drilling rate of 300 metres per day across the site.

2Strategic Drilling Objectives

The current program utilizes two reverse-circulation rigs, two diamond rigs, and one aircore rig to target high-priority zones. The primary focus remains the Cowza-Celia South trend, where previous intercepts revealed high-grade gold. The company aims to define the orientation of mineralized vein structures to guide future resource expansion efforts effectively.

3Twinning the Cowza Discovery

A diamond rig is currently twinning the original discovery hole at Cowza to gather crucial geological data. The initial hole yielded 41 metres at two grams per tonne of gold, including a nine-metre core at 7.5 grams per tonne. This structural analysis is essential for validating the continuity of the gold-bearing veins.

4Expanding Resource Potential

Once the second diamond rig arrives, it will shift focus to testing extensions at the Horse Well deposit. Simultaneously, the aircore rig is exploring pipeline targets along the Celia Shear zone. These efforts are designed to build upon the project's existing global gold inventory, which currently stands at 400,400 ounces of gold.

5Financial and Market Context

Gateway Mining maintains a strong financial position with $52.8 million in cash as of the September quarter. This liquidity supports the intensive exploration blitz despite high competition for drilling equipment in Western Australia. State-wide exploration spending reached a record $843.6 million in the June quarter, reflecting a very active regional sector.

6Regional Geological Significance

The Yandal project is situated within the Yandal greenstone belt, a region known for hosting multi-million-ounce deposits like Jundee and Bronzewing. Gateway’s tenements cover the Celia shear, a major structure linking key prospects such as Dusk ’til Dawn and Horse Well. This geological setting provides a high-potential environment for further significant discoveries.

7Leadership and Strategy Shift

The ramp-up follows a board reshuffle that elevated Richard Pugh to managing director. Under Pugh’s leadership, the company has successfully identified multiple prospects including Haflinger, Hummer, and Rubicon. This leadership change has sharpened the firm's focus on exploration-led growth, aiming to transform Yandal into a multi-million-ounce gold camp through consistent drilling success.

8Outlook for Resource Upgrades

With operational hurdles resolved and a full fleet of rigs active, Gateway is positioned to generate a steady stream of assay results. The company intends to leverage this data to pursue a resource upgrade next year. Success in these current campaigns could significantly increase the company's total gold inventory and overall market value.
