How to Enable Hidden Fast Charging on Pixel 11 Pro XL
Boost your charging speeds with Google's new Extreme Charging feature.
1Pixel's Charging History
Pixel phones once led the industry with 18W chargers. However, as competitors introduced 65W+ solutions, Pixels fell behind. The Pixel 11 series charges slower than its predecessor. Google addressed this with software-based Extreme Charging. While all Pixel 11 models support it, the most significant improvement is seen on the Pixel 11 Pro XL.
2What is Extreme Charging?
Google's Extreme Charging for Pixel 11 series activates maximum supported charging speeds. It works best with 45W+ chargers. By pausing background apps during charging, it reduces overheating and shortens charging time. However, this mode only activates when battery level is below 50%.
3Effectiveness Across Models
In tests, Pixel 11 Pro XL reached 45% charge in 15 minutes with Extreme Charging versus 27% normally. After 30 minutes, the difference was 80% vs 54%. Other Pixel 11 Pro models showed only 1-2% improvement in 15 minutes. Standard Pixel 11 and Pro Fold models saw minimal benefits.
4Required Hardware
For optimal Extreme Charging performance, you need at least a 45W charger with 21V PPS support. Google's official charger offers best compatibility, but third-party options like Anker also work. The feature becomes ineffective with chargers below 30W.
5How to Enable
To activate Extreme Charging, connect your phone to at least a 30W charger. Then navigate to Settings > Battery & charging > Extreme Charging Mode. Once set up, a quick access button appears on the lock screen. You can also add it to Quick Settings for convenience.
6Usage Limitations
The feature only works below 50% battery and needs reactivation for each charge. Background app restrictions may delay some notifications. Long-term battery health effects remain unclear. Google recommends using it only in emergencies.
7Competitor Comparison
Compared to other premium phones, Pixel 11 Pro XL's 80% charge in 30 minutes still trails behind OnePlus and Xiaomi's full charges. However, this feature significantly improves one of Pixel series' biggest weaknesses - charging speed.
8Why It Matters
Extreme Charging demonstrates Google's effort to overcome hardware limitations through software. It's particularly useful for users without all-day charging access. Pixel 11 Pro XL owners can now achieve charging speeds closer to competitors. Google is expected to better align hardware and software in future Pixel models.
