## Color of the Year: Cottage Door

Valspar has selected Cottage Door 8004-38E as its 2027 Color of the Year. This mid-tone blue balances warm and cool undertones, adding personality without sacrificing versatility. The choice reflects growing demand for interiors that feel personal and lived-in rather than overly perfected. Valspar describes Cottage Door as a response to the desire for comfort and authenticity in home environments.

## Color Psychology and Design

Sue Kim, Valspar's director of color marketing, explains that Cottage Door captures blue's natural sense of security and trust. The color serves as a colorful neutral that layers effortlessly into home decor. These qualities help create spaces that feel balanced, comforting, and inviting. The shade works well with soft minimalism and organic textures in interior design.

## Unique Color Qualities

Cottage Door occupies a unique space between airy pastels and dramatic navy blues. This positioning gives it enough presence to define a room while remaining subdued enough to work across different materials and color palettes. The balance between boldness and subtlety makes this shade particularly versatile for various design applications.

## Complementary Colors

Valspar pairs Cottage Door with two supporting shades: warm gray Moon Shot 8005-2B and muted creamy pink Apricot Blush 8003-8A. Light wood tones add another layer of warmth to the palette, creating a soft aesthetic without becoming overly sweet. This combination offers designers a flexible color scheme for different projects.

## Product Range

Valspar is making Cottage Door available across interior and exterior paints, stains, and specialty finishes. This wide product range allows the blue tone to be used on cabinetry, furniture, and exterior surfaces. The company has developed specialized formulations to ensure color consistency across different materials and applications.

## Design Trends

Valspar's 2027 color selection demonstrates that neutral homes don't need to be devoid of color—they can simply be more subtle about it. Cottage Door represents a soft interpretation of minimalist design, adding character to spaces without being overwhelming. This approach aligns with contemporary preferences for understated elegance.

## Industry Impact

Valspar's color choice will likely influence trends in interior design and home decor. Retailers and furniture manufacturers may begin developing products that complement this color palette. Given consumers' growing demand for personalized living spaces, Cottage Door is expected to gain popularity in residential and commercial design projects.

## Significance of Color Selection

Color of the Year selections don't just indicate trends—they reflect societal moods and priorities. Cottage Door's selection signals the post-pandemic desire for safe, comfortable, and personalized home environments. This color appears poised to shape 2027's design language, influencing everything from wall colors to home accessories and textiles.
